Wireless Network Planning - Distance, Rate And Also Adapters
So you want a Wireless N network Installed. My next question is what type of network do you need? When we install a wireless network in Highland Park IL or the North Shore of Chicago we ask the customer many questions about exactly what the home owner needs. This information will describe what you need to consider whenever getting or installing a radio system.
1. What will you be doing on your wireless network? - Bandwidth requirements are very import when considering a wireless N network installation. If you are down loading large files, streaming video, or music or watch online movies they you are going to need what we call a wireless multimedia network. Multimedia networks need guaranteed bandwidth.
2. How large is the area that you need covered? - Probably a better question is how large and where and what you will be doing. Most people will purchase a Linksys Wireless N router and get the speeds they want in the same room of the router and then find that 15 ft away their wireless speed will drop to half or worse.
3. What type of wireless adapters do you already have? .If all of your computers have 802.11g wireless adapters and you purchase a wireless N router you not see the advertised speeds on the box. So you could save money buy purchasing an 802.11g MIMO enabled router or if you want wireless N speeds you will have to purchase wireless n adapters for you computers.
4. What is the construction material for you home - Highland Park Illinois homes have many older brick homes, which are not friendly to Linksys or Dlink wireless routers. These types of homes require more powerful cellular social networking gear in order to great time via wall space as well as plumbing pipe.
5. Do you want outdoor wireless access? Most people don't think about it but it is great to sit outside and do work by your pool or on your deck rather than being stuck inside next to your wireless router.
Obtain everything you anticipate and much more when setting up your wifi network. Your wireless networks performance has many factors, distance, construction materials, RF interference, power of the wireless router, applications, and antenna types. Don't believe the hype on the Wireless N box. Know what speeds you will have in each room before you buy.
is this a good internet speed for xbox live?
download speed: 21.40 mb/s
upload speed: 8.81 mb/s
and my isp is comcast and my router is Belkin G+ wireless MIMO (but i use wire instead instead of wireless)
I have been using a Comcast wired set up with a Linksys router for some time and have found it to work very well. I have also heard, from the pros at my local game shop, that using a wired set up is better than wireless for performance. I have not had any 'glitchiness' or 'choppiness' thus far and have been more than impressed with headphone communications with my friends. 'Seamless' would be a good word to describe the experience.
In contrast, my brother uses a PS3 with an ATandT wireless router, and I have not been excited with the online game play that he has. There seems to be lots of freezing, which really sucks when you are in the middle of live combat with a team. I would guess that this has more to do with his speed and wireless router than his PS3.
Good luck and happy gaming!
MegaMIMO wins Elevator Pitch Contest (MIT)
In just 60 seconds, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory
(CSAIL) graduate student Hariharan Shankar Rahul made the case for MegaMIMO, a
new Wi-Fi optimization system that solves the problem of overcrowded and
overloaded wireless networks. As the first finalist asked to pitch his
business plan during the final round of MIT’s $100K Competition Elevator Pitch
Contest, Rahul had to wait for almost an hour after his presentation,
wondering about the ultimate outcome. At the end of the night Rahul, who
worked with CSAIL principal investigator Dina Katabi and CSAIL graduate
student Swarun Kumar for two years to develop MegaMIMO, was crowned the grand-
prize winner and awarded $5,000.
“It felt really good,” Rahul said on winning the contest. “This is good
validation that this is a real business, and that we’re solving a real
problem.”
In his short but compelling pitch, Rahul explained the problems presented by
today’s limited wireless spectrum by referring to Steve Jobs’ infamous iPhone
4 keynote last year, where the Apple co-founder was forced to ask audience
members to shut off their wireless so that he could demonstrate the new
system. To solve the problem of overcrowded and crashing networks, Rahul
proposed MegaMIMO, ...
