usb wifi booster antenna?
I have permission to pick-up my neighbors open wi-fi signal. So, I have a 1 watt, 30 dbm usb wifi booster antenna for my laptop but it isn't doing that great. Sometimes I don't get connected and other times, I lose my wifi connection.
I'm thinking about getting a better booster antenna but it is 41 dbm and is 13 watts. Is the 13 watts to much for my laptop? Thanks.
Boosting your transmit power at one end isn't going to help at all since the receive will be the same. A plain 14db panel would pick up an access point 1,000 feet away. More power isn't the answer. Particularly since anything over 100 milliwatts is illegal.
And you can't get more than 2.5 watts of power from a USB port.
