wifi antenna help??????????
hey guys, i have just received a 16dbi antenna through the post 2day which i intend to eventually connect up to a wifi adapter. To test it out i tried connecting it 2 the router 2 see if i get a much better range than the initial 2dbi one however i get smaller signal on laptop. Have i done anything wrong or should it not work with a router but instead an adapter.

pretty sure router is n type. how can u tell antenna is of g or b type
Is your router a wireless "G", or "N"? That antenna won't work properly for "N", just "G" (and "B")
I doubt it is really a 16 dbi gain, it looks a tad small. Most gain antennas of 16 dbi are uni-directional, not onmi. Gain is basically a function of "capture area", which usually means number of antenna elements - hence size. Notice their text "Max gain up to 16dbi" - the "up to" would worry me, antenna gain is fixed based on design, it does not change, either it is 16 dbi or it is not...
Make sure both antennas are either vertical or horizontal, making them different may reduce signal strength.
