Overcome Distance Problems With HDMI Extender
Distance Not A Problem Anymore With HDMI Extender
It is not uncommon today to find HD videos being displayed in public places and conference rooms and other places. Given that HD pictures are significantly better than standard definition ones, it is not surprising that they are gaining a lot of popularity. But one problem that many network designers are facing is that with increasing distance the quality of the picture deteriorates. HDMI extender can help address this problem.
The HD signal needs a lot of bandwidth to be transmitted. The HD screen or projector needs a very good signal strength to project the picture in its best quality. The need for high bandwidth as compared to standard definition pictures is because you send more pixels per send with HD than SD. With improved cables like CAT5e and CAT6 this problem of bandwidth has been solved.
The next big challenge is the signal strength. Of course as long as you are viewing it in your house the distance is immaterial and house is never too big for serious signal deterioration. But once you start looking at conference tools and other places the distance may be more than 30 to 50 m and that can become a problem.
The increased distance means that the signal attenuates more before reaching the HD screen. When this happens you really do not get the true HD display. The best solution for this is to use the Extender. This is more like a signal booster that can bring back the signal levels to the source level and this way the screen gets a better signal to display.
Of course if the extender needs to support these distances it needs to be compatible with the common transmission media used with HD signals. You will that most HDMI extender units support CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 and fibre inputs and outputs.
Interestingly the same media that are used to send HD signals also send SD signals. After all these are backward compatible. Knowing what kind of signal are you typically looking at is very important when you are planning the placement of these repeater units. For SD, you can have these repeaters much further apart than for HD. For example a 480p signal may need these units placed nearly twice as far apart as for 1080p signal. These are important technical details you need to know while using these units.
In conclusion, the HDMI extender is a great unit to have for commercial display of HD signals. They can boost and extend the distance between the source and the HD display allowing the signal to be used for public demonstration too.

How can I enhance WIFI signal inside my home of 3 story at all floors equally?
I am using Linksys Modem at top floor. Is there a signal Booster/repeater I can use?
CHEAP solution: Install the Linksys Modem (wireless router?) [MAKE? && MODEL?] on the center floor.
=
- Installing the wireless router on the center floor. This MAY broadcast wireless signal more evenly throughout 3 story house.
-
BEST solution: THREE wireless routers, ONE on each floor. Each floor a subnet.
