Now Is The Time To Upgrade To A Wireless N Router
Think about upgrading to a Wireless N Router. appear at the number of new benefits Wireless N offers over Wireless G. The two obvious pros over Wireless G are speed and range. In terms of speed the majority of Wireless G Routers reach a maximum of 54Mbps. While this is a big improvement over Wireless B 11Mbps it does not hold a candle to Wireless N. A Wireless N Router top speed is 300Mbps. Occasionally even around 450Mbps. That's virtually 6 times faster than a G router. Wireless N offers a 100 percent increase in range over Wireless G's 150 feet.
Wireless G is alright for 2 people who do little more then surf the net and print a download every once in awhile. If you want to play games on a Wireless G network things can come to a screeching halt speedily. If you are streaming HD video all over your household a wireless G router will rapidly turn into a frustrating bottleneck. One person or a couple on a wireless G network is not a big deal. You will discover things will come to a screeching halt speedily with 3 or 4 people however. Wireless N routers boost their range and signal strength by using a system of several antennas. This is known as MIMO. Three or four people should be able to use this increase in speed and range to browse the internet with ease.
Wireless N Routers intended for video games and HD video offer even more overall performance. These routers include high speed processors and extra memory manufactured to take care of the most demanding games and streaming HD video. High end routers have been manufactured to be connected directly to your preferred video game console or Blueray player for delay free network performance. Another useful feature of Wireless N is that it can work on a less crowded frequency band than Wireless G. Cordless phones, microwave ovens, garage doorway openers and unfortunately your friends and neighbors wifi router can easily interfere with your Wireless G routers signal. The end result can be interference problems which are often tough to find and resolve. The 5GHZ frequency band used by Wireless N routers is not subject to interference from these products. This feature is enhanced upon by dual band wireless routers which permit you to run two networks at the same time. This allows you to keep your surfing and video gaming activites from interfering with each other by way of running them on separate networks and frequencies.
Built in USB ports are another great feature available on many N routers. You can easily share the files on most typical USB memory sticks and external hard drives with this port. The only drawbacks on the next generation of N routers may be price and perhaps compatibility. The great news is prices have come way down. Prices commonly fall when a model that has been around for some time is replaced. If you need to have the "latest and greatest" version then this may be a wonderful chance for you to upgrade now. You can get a very good N router for about the same price as a standard G router. A possible downside could be compatibility. You lose the benefits of N if all your wifi adapters are G until you upgrade all those as well.
Now that you know the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing a Wireless N Router you will be able to make an informed purchase.
Is it possible to combine a MIMO WiFi Card to a regular WiFi-G router?
Some wireless reception in our office is intermittent (goes on and off) while some are low. Is it possible to increase reception using a MIMO WiFi Card on the PC with a regular WiFi-G router in infrastructure mode? How about the other way around? Will it work? Thanks.
The main goal is to improve reception...
The MIMO WiFi card will downgrade to the WiFi-G rate and should work just fine. The other way, where you have a MIMO router and a WiFi-G card, depends on the router config. Whoever set up the router must make sure to allow it do "downgrade" the connection to allow older devices.
