Acer MBR replaced?
Hi,
I recently bought an acer aspire 3680 notebook with windows vista home installed. I did not like the features on vista so I decided to replace it with a dell os disk i have containing windows xp home. After doing this I noticed the peripherals such as the webcam, bluetooth, wireles adapter and microphone were not working. I now want to turn it back. Reading through the manual I came across the pqservice partition stuff. I no for a fact that I have not altered the recovery partition but I cannot access it with the alt+F10 shortcut in the acer boot screen. I figured this is because I used a dell os cd. I have no clue how to access this partition to initiate a recovery. Please include step-by-step instructions my knowledge is fairly limited concerning this. I have tried ptedit.exe with no success as well as typing in "mbrwrwin.exe install mbr..." in the cmd prompt which did nothing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
"so I decided to replace it with a dell os disk" DELL on an ACER? What were you thinking???
The Dell disk is NOT an XP Home Installation Disk. It is a disk image of the hard drive of an old Dell PC that had XP Home installed on it. Very different!!!
You did NOT use the "XP Upgrade" Recovery disks for your MAKE & Model number of PC. The Acer drivers are missing, that's why it doesn't work properly. RTFM first!!!
Read the PC User Manual "Recovery" procedures, if you haven't already destroyed the Recovery partition. Then, re-install Vista and start over.
Then, call the PC manufacturer to get the proper XP Recovery (“Upgrade”) disks, if available, for your model #.
